Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our Wisconsin-grown ginseng.
About Our Products
What forms of ginseng do you offer?
We offer four forms of premium Wisconsin ginseng:
- Capsules (500mg) — Convenient daily supplement in 30, 60, or 90-count bottles
- Tea Bags (30ct) — Traditional way to enjoy ginseng, easy to brew
- Whole Dried Root — Premium roots for traditional use or tea making
- Powder — Versatile form for smoothies, recipes, or tea (Premium)
Is your ginseng Premium?
Our Ginseng Powder is certified Premium. Our other products (capsules, tea, whole root) are grown using sustainable farming practices but are not certified Premium.
All our ginseng is grown without pesticides and is lab-tested for purity and potency.
What is the ginsenoside content of your products?
Our ginseng contains 4-7% ginsenosides, which is the active compound that provides ginseng's health benefits. This is lab-verified with each batch.
Wisconsin-grown ginseng is known for having some of the highest ginsenoside content in the world due to our unique soil and climate conditions.
How should I store ginseng products?
Store all ginseng products in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
- Capsules & Tea: Room temperature, sealed container
- Whole Root: Airtight container, can refrigerate for longer storage
- Powder: Sealed container, refrigerate after opening
Properly stored, our products have a shelf life of 2-3 years.
What's the recommended dosage?
Standard recommendations:
- Capsules: 1-2 capsules daily (500-1000mg)
- Tea: 1-2 cups daily
- Powder: 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon daily (1-2 grams)
- Whole Root: 3-5 grams brewed as tea
Start with a lower dose and increase gradually. Best taken in the morning or early afternoon.
Quality & Sourcing
What is the Ginseng Board of Wisconsin (GBW) certification?
The Ginseng Board of Wisconsin seal certifies that ginseng is 100% authentically grown in Wisconsin. It's the gold standard for American ginseng quality.
Heil Ginseng is one of the few farms authorized to use this seal. It guarantees you're getting genuine Wisconsin ginseng, not cheaper imports mislabeled as American.
Why is Wisconsin ginseng considered the best?
Wisconsin produces 95% of all American ginseng for good reason:
- Ideal Climate: Cold winters and moderate summers stress the roots, increasing ginsenoside content
- Superior Soil: Glacial soil provides perfect mineral composition
- Experience: Over 100 years of ginseng farming expertise in the region
Wisconsin ginseng is prized worldwide, especially in Asian markets where it commands premium prices.
Is your ginseng lab tested?
Yes. Every batch is tested for:
- Ginsenoside content (potency)
- Heavy metals
- Pesticide residue
- Microbial contamination
We maintain detailed records and can provide certificates of analysis upon request.
How long does it take to grow ginseng?
American ginseng requires 4-5 years to reach maturity. We never harvest early — patience is what makes our ginseng potent.
The roots develop more ginsenosides each year, which is why aged ginseng is more valuable and effective.
