Here are the questions that help most when choosing, storing and preparing our ginseng. Each product page has the current sizes, prices and package directions.
Where is your ginseng grown?
We grow all the ginseng we sell on our family’s Wisconsin farm. We never mix it with ginseng grown in Canada or Asia.
Which product is easiest to start with?
Tea bags are easy to brew, and slices work for tea or soup. Whole roots need more preparation. Powder can be mixed into food or drinks, and capsules have their own serving directions. See the choices.
Which roots would you give as a gift?
Our five-year roots are our most premium selection and our first recommendation for gifting. We also grow and harvest three- and four-year roots. Compare root ages.
Are Blemish Mix roots still good to use?
Yes. The roots are sound; “blemish” means a cosmetic scar, wrinkle or other mark on the outside. We sort them separately from our premium roots. The mix can include three-, four- and five-year roots, with no fixed age blend.
When are fresh roots available, and how do they ship?
Fresh-root season runs September through mid-January. Fresh orders ship with 1-day delivery, packed with cold packs in an insulated box. Fresh orders ship by total net weight in fresh-root packing. Refrigerate the whole order on arrival and don't wash the roots until you're ready to use them. Wrapped loosely in a paper towel in a closed bag in the crisper drawer (34–39°F), fresh roots keep 2 to 3 weeks. If the towel gets wet, replace it. For longer storage, freeze whole roots in a sealed freezer bag for up to about 6 months, or slice and dry them. Wash well under cool running water just before use.
How do I store dried ginseng?
Keep dried roots, slices, powder, tea and capsules sealed in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Keep moisture out and follow the package directions.
How much powder should I use?
Follow the amount on the package. A kitchen spoon can hold different amounts depending on how you fill it, so use the measurement stated on the label.
Can you trace my order to the harvest?
Yes. Our records connect orders to harvest lots. Testing documents are not automatically included in orders. If you need a particular report, ask before purchasing.

Can I bring ginseng to China, Hong Kong, Taiwan or Vietnam as a gift?
Yes. Taking farm-grown ginseng out of the United States in your own luggage is fine, dried roots are fine in Hong Kong, and in Taiwan up to 1 kg in total. Powder and tea bags are the simplest gift for mainland China, where China Customs' guidance asks for a certificate for whole and sliced roots. Read the details and sources.
