Buying Ginseng in Bulk: 5 lb and 10 lb Orders
Updated September 30, 2026
If your family cooks with ginseng every week, or you are buying for several households, a 5 lb or 10 lb order costs much less per pound than small bags. Every bulk order from us ships as our regular 1 lb bags, so it stores and shares easily. The main choice is which root: five-year roots for gifts, three-year roots for everyday cooking, or Blemish Mix for the lowest price per pound.
Shop every 5 lb and 10 lb bag in one place, with today's price per pound for each root.

Which root to buy in bulk
| Root | Best for | Bulk sizes |
|---|---|---|
| 5-year whole root | Gifts for several people, and buyers who want our most premium roots | 5 lb, 10 lb |
| 4-year whole root | A step up for everyday cooking | 5 lb, 10 lb |
| 3-year whole root | Weekly soup, broth, congee and tea | 5 lb, 10 lb |
| Blemish Mix | The lowest price per pound, when looks don't matter | 5 lb, 10 lb |
| Fresh roots | Cooking in season, September to mid-January | 5 lb, 10 lb |
Today's prices for every root and size are on our price per pound page. On our dried whole roots, a 10 lb order costs about half as much per pound as an 8 oz bag.

Five years in the ground, then careful sorting
Five-year roots are our most premium selection and our first choice for a ginseng gift. We grow them on our Wisconsin farm, dry them here, and sort them carefully before packing. Each root still has its own shape, branching and size. A 10 lb order makes ten separate 1 lb gifts.

Blemish means a mark on the outside. The root is still good.
A scar or wrinkle can keep a sound root out of our graded selection. We set those roots aside as Blemish Mix. The blemish is cosmetic, and the roots are good to use for tea and cooking.

The mix may contain three-, four- and five-year roots. We sell it by weight, with no fixed proportion of each age. Choose a single-age product if you want every root from one crop.

Storing a bulk order
- Dried roots: keep the 1 lb bags sealed in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Open one bag at a time.
- Fresh roots: every bag goes in the refrigerator on arrival. Freeze whole roots in a sealed freezer bag for up to about 6 months, or slice and dry them. Read the fresh-root guide before a large fresh order.
- Sharing: each 1 lb bag carries its own harvest-lot code, so it can go to another household as it is.
Buying more than 10 lb
For home orders larger than our listed sizes, tell us what you need, including the root, quantity and delivery timing. Herb and ginseng shops, TCM practitioners, grocery stores and restaurants buying 30 lb or more can apply for a wholesale account.
